National Film & TV Awards South Africa 2026: 12th Annual Ceremony Crowns Its Winners in a Record-Breaking Celebration
Hosted by Cait King at Johannesburg's Porchester Hall and decided by 2.7 million public votes, the star-studded ceremony honoured the very best of British and international film and television, broadcast live on Channel One TV.
LONDON, 2 July 2026
The 12th Annual National Film & TV Awards South Africa returned to the historic Porchester Hall in Johannesburg on Wednesday 1 July 2026 for a glittering celebration of the year's finest achievements in film and television. Hosted by Cait King and broadcast live on Channel One TV, the ceremony was decided entirely by the public — with a record-breaking 2.7 million votes cast by film and television fans across the UK and around the world.
The most successful edition in the event's history, this year's awards drew record public engagement, a packed red carpet of stars, and winners across 28 categories — spanning blockbuster features and international cinema to the year's most-loved television dramas, comedies and breakthrough talent. The night also marked a landmark moment for the industry, as the National Film & TV Awards South Africa became the first mainstream awards ceremony in the world to introduce a Best Vertical Series category, recognising the explosive global rise of mobile-first, portrait-format storytelling.

Among the evening's biggest moments, the Michael Jackson biopic Michael proved one of the night's standout stories — winning Best Producer for Graham King, John Branca, Prince Jackson and John McClain, while its star Jaafar Jackson was a double winner, taking both Best Newcomer and Outstanding Performance. Kate Winslet was honoured as Best Supporting Actress for Goodbye June, and Idris Elba won Best Actor in a TV Series for Hijack, Season 2. On the film side, I Swear was named Best British Film, Steve took Best Drama and Glenrothan won Best Feature Film — capping a night that celebrated the very best of British and international storytelling.

"This has been our biggest and most exciting year yet," said a spokesperson for the National Film Academy. "To see 2.7 million people take the time to vote for the films, series and performances that moved them tells you everything about the power of storytelling — and about how much these awards mean to the public who decide them. Our congratulations go to every winner and nominee, and our thanks to the wonderful partners who made the night possible."
The National Film Academy extends its sincere thanks to the sponsors and partners who made the 2026 ceremony possible — led by Official Water Sponsor Mountaine Water, Official Super App Sponsor Moneeys.com, Official Holiday Partner Leger Holidays, and Official Cosmetics Partner Voodoo Cosmetics. The Academy also thanks its category sponsors — IMEAN BEAUTY, House of Bothania, Alstelle, MondayRepublic.com, Island Falls Home and Darian Didier — together with valued partners Pantherella, Bouclème and Dechavel Watches, and broadcast partner Channel One TV.
